Maasai women are feeding their families by making and selling beaded jewellery. They are struggling, because Covid pandemic made it impossible for them to get to the markets, and now, as a result of their overall economic decline, they cannot afford to get to the markets.
Hi, I am Ludmila. I am a student at Cheltenham Ladies’ College in England. Since I was five years old, I have spent my school breaks at Hekima Place, an all-girls orphanage in Kenya. It is on Maasai land in the Rift Valley. I have grown close to Maasai women. They became a part of my family.
Help Maasai Women by Purchasing Beaded Jewelry
There are over 2 million Maasai in Africa. They live in close knit communities. I spent my time with women from the Kona Baridi community. Agnes wears the most colourful variety of beads on her choker, earrings, belt, wristbands and shoes. Elisabeth wears the brightest fabrics. She loves canary yellow. Maria makes the sweetest tea with loads of milk and sugar. Susan makes the tastiest ugali with kale.
Help Maasai women feed their families by purchasing beaded wristbands. The £5 wristband will feed one family of six for one week. The £15 wristband will feed one family for three weeks. Skip your frappuccino today, buy an original wristband and put food in hungry tummies. Thank you!
